Upright vacuum cleaners are exceptionally practical and easier to use than cylinder vacuums. However, they are slightly less flexible and unless attachments are added, they are not able to get into small spaces. There is usually no difference in performance between an upright vacuum cleaner and a cylinder vacuum cleaner.

Upright vacuum cleaners often have height adjustable cleaning heads meaning the carpet is cleaner however the higher quality cylinder vacuum cleaners have similar features.

Reliability between upright and cylinder vacuum cleaners is typically the same although upright vacuum cleaners can often cost slightly more.
